Agility Foundation

for teams ready for off leash work

In this class we teach all the foundation behaviors your dog needs to be safe and successful in agility, whether you are just having some fun or you are on the competition track. We will cover body awareness, core strength, obstacle and handler focus, shadow handling, and beginning obstacle training (table, tunnel, jumps, contacts and weaves) and more! Dogs and handlers will stay in this class until they attain all the foundation skills needed for Agility Intermediate, typically for 4-6 months.

Prerequisite: To begin agility foundation classes, dogs must have instructor permission. Dogs must be 12 months of age or older and able to work with their handlers in an exciting environment off leash. A solid training foundation that includes sit, down, stay, and a solid recall off distractions is important to ensure the safety and efficiency of group agility classes.

Agility intermediate

In this class we continue to develop all the behaviors your dog needs to be safe and successful in agility, whether you are just having some fun or you are on the competition track. We will work on full height contact obstacles, weaves in line, and sequences of up to 10 obstacles with up to three crosses. Dogs and handlers will stay in this class until they attain all the skills needed for Agility Competition, including independent contact and weave behaviors without training aids.

You MUST have instructor approval to sign up or switch agility classes.

Agility Competition

In this class we work on full length (20 obstacle) sequences. Every week, we walk the course, analyze handling choices, and then each team gets two three minute turns to work the sequence and train through new challenges. Each month, competition classes work on a new subject. Subjects covered include: tight turns, independent contacts, distance handling, using toys to reinforce, how to decide which cross to use, warm up routines, independent weaves, how to build speed, proofing distractions, lead outs, and more!

sports preparation (pre-agility)

For teams almost ready for off leash work

This is a class designed for dogs and handlers wanting to enter agility, obedience, rally or other dog sports. We will work on body awareness, tricks and other skills such as targeting and advanced station work, with the goal of getting dogs to interact confidently and independently with objects in their environment. We will also be emphasizing dogs’ handler focus and engagement while working around other dogs. Dog/Handler teams can expect to take 8 weeks of Sports Preparation before moving on to Agility Foundation.

Prerequisite: To begin Sports Preparation, teams must have completed either Puppy 3 or Manners 2 and obtain instructor approval. Email us or sign up for an assessment to get instructor permission.

agility jumping workshop

improve your dog’s jumping skills

This workshop introduces various types of jumping skills for agility including turns, slices, and jumping in extension. We will work through different 1 jump and jump grid exercises with an emphasis on good jumping form. The workshop provides an opportunity for dogs to solve the puzzle of how to move confidently between jumps in different configurations and at different distances. No prior jumping experience is required. Dogs should also be over 1 year old or have instructor approval.

agility contact obstacle workshop

improve your dog’s contact performance

This class covers the fundamentals for successful dog walk, A-frame, and Teeter performance in Agility. Methods and practice for running contacts and stopped contacts will be covered. Depending on experience, we will work on advanced scenarios such a proofing stopped contacts from a distance and running contacts with turns. Instruction will be tailored to individual needs and experience.
