RALLY WORKSHOP: foundation EXERCISES FOR GREAT HEELING

In this workshop we will learn a handful of exercises and games that are fun and easy to play with your dogs and build the muscle memory, coordination, and body awareness necessary for good heeling.  Some of the specific things we will be working on include hind-awareness, pivoting, backing up, weight shifts, and head-up heeling.  After this workshop, you will have a collection of exercises you can do regularly with your dog to help the understand how to move and carry their body in order to achieve great heeling. No prerequisites.

RALLY WORKSHOP: TRIAL SKILLS

This workshop will focus on skills that are important for successful trialing,  Topics covered will include walking courses, entry and exit routines, strategies for maintaining engagement without treats, and what to do when things go wrong.  This workshop is for teams preparing for any level of trial so prior trial experience is not required.  However, the focus is on trial skills and not on how to perform specific rally signs so teams need to at least be familiar with novice rally signs.  Prerequisite: rally foundations, rally all levels, rally trial experience, or instructor permission.

rally foundation

Interested in Rally? Rally Foundation is an introduction to heeling, precision position changes, fronts and finishes. In Rally, you and your dog navigate a course together side by side. The course includes signs with different exercises which include various turns and skills such as sit, down, and stay. Rally is more precise than manners obedience, but more relaxed than competition obedience. During Rally, you are encouraged to communicate with your dog and praise them for a task well done!

Prerequisites: Puppy 3, Manners 2, or instructor permission.

Cost: $220 for a 4-week session

What to bring to Rally classes:

-Your dog! Preferably a little hungry, and having been given a potty break prior to class.

-flat buckle collar, martingale collar, head halter, front-attaching harness (ex. Freedom or Balance harnesses) or body harness. Please no prong collars or slip/choke collars. For competition, head halters and body harnesses are not allowed.

-6 foot nylon or leather leash. Please no flexi/retractable leashes.

-treat pouch. A fanny pack, climber’s chalk bag, or hardware apron will work well too!

-treats! At least two cups (I know, it’s a lot!) of pea-sized delicious treats. Your treats need to outcompete the environment, so hot dogs, ham and cheese will all work well.

-A mat or platform for your dog to rest on between exercises.

-Optional: a chew or stuffed kong for your dog to chew during downtimes.
